Sunday Morning Update
The big news this morning is that Mom got a good nights sleep for the first time in a week. As many of you know, sleeping after major medical issues is hard, and no one thinks of a hospital room when they envision a comfortable place to sleep. Thanks to good nurses, however, Mom got a solid 6 hour stretch of rest. Today will be more physical, occupational, and swallowing therapy.
One way you can tell that Mom is progressing is that doctors, nurses, and therapists are all talking about getting her out of the ICU. There isn't a firm time on that yet, but we're hoping it will be early next week. She'll then move to a normal hospital room in Murray, and then will likely be moved to an in-patient rehabilitation facility closer to home for a few more days of intensive work with all those therapists before going home. It's a long road ahead, but we are all encouraged that we're starting to look to what's next.
This morning we also were able to give Mom the sacrament. It turns out that her hospital has a branch (church congregation) that only covers those in the hospital. We contacted a wonderful, faithful branch president who authorized us to administer the sacrament to Mom. We had to give her the tiniest speck of bread and an ice chip, but she was so happy to be able to participate in that ordinance. Our family has felt the love of our Savior at so many times and in so many ways over the past week. The sacrament gave us a chance to remember Jesus "in His own appointed way".
Beautiful!
